Hello, new to the forum. ALthough have read many postings.

I have a 1988 GXL, have been second owner since 1993. I had the car in storage for 6 months. I recently picked it up and it seems as if there is huge loss of power as well as the fuel economy is only about 15 mpg.

The otherday i jumped on it and got smoked by a stock OLD miata, so i timed my 0-60 on my watch, takes about 12 to 15 seconds.

The car has 73k on it, does not smoke, and runs smooth. Except during warm up the idle jumps repeatedly between 1200 and 2000. Also if i apply very little preasure to gas pedal the idle will become irradic and driving in traffic becomes a challenge.

Most everything is stock. Any suggestions on where i should start testing, i do not see any disconned vacuum lines or sensors. Is this possibly a common issue and/or an easy fix.

You'll need to ck your vac lines first...And you should replace them as they are old.

I'm replacing my vac lines with Hose Tech silicone hoses.

I think you've blown an apex seal. Check your compression.

Thanks,
I checked all the vaccuum lines, they are old so i will start taking on that task. Also after reading many of the forums noticed that the 5th and 6th ports are not opening. SO i've tapped off of the air pump.. but it now only stays open for about 3 seconds. Any idea's?

I still need to check the compression, but i do not appear to be smoking or burning any access oil.

Any other suggestions? Thanks again!

Ahh my bad, I read a different topic and responded to this one. Sounds like vacuum on this car. Doesn't hurt to check your compression anyways though.
