Hey guys.. I don't actually own an RX, my friend does and I help her out with it all the time, we joke constantly about racing our cars (I own an 87 Supra) I was wondering what a stock 86 RX7 puts out for horsepower? figured this would be the place to ask

86-88 NA = 146 HP @ 6500 RPM w/ 138 Ft/lb @ 3500 RPM
86-88 Turbo = 182 @ 6500 RPM w/ 183 Ft/lb @ 3500 RPM

Hey, I'm pretty new to this forum and I didn't want to add a new thread just for this but it the best time to shift to the next gear at your peak horsepower moment?

I mean, here someone said peak horsepower is at 6.5k, so is that the best time to shift? Someone give me some insight because that's where I always used to shift my Mirage.

If you look at your rpm with gear ratio...that answer will come to you.

OK, I normally shift by ear, which is usually 5.5K to 6K. But, when I'm doing something STUPID I shift at 7K+.

If your FC can handle that or not depends on what you have done as to performance mod.

I hear about people shifting at 7k+ all the time, personally i have never done it, but i heard it isn't that bad to a lightly modded rx7.

.....I take no responsibility of damage or accident. :P

...but if you do make sure drivetrain is secured. Otherwise tweek by torque will do unwanted damages.

What would an 83' with a 5 speed put out? Does anyone make a turbo for it?

(i know this is the 2nd generation forum part)

its a funny thing 'best time to shift"

i mean it has its ups and downs
once a car goes past its peak rpm, it does 'lose power' but the argument is does it lose more or less power than it would do if you shifted up at peak rpm on oppose to after it(since if you changed after peak rpm you would be in a closer rpm to peak rpm when you up shifted)
i slap it through at peak rpm personally(i dont own a running rotor tho) just couse i dont like hurting internals by putting them in the red

cheers
