why does the 13b average 100k miles?

i dont have an rx7 yet but im looking at craigslist constantly and refreshing, been reading a lot and they only seem to last for 100k miles, does anybody know why?
also if you happen to be selling...

i have the opportunity to buy the base model 1988 rx7, its got a blown tranny, and some other minor problems like AC, but for $1000 its got my attention. the guy i may get it from has a replacement...
