Unless your going fuel injection your only option is going to be to find a blow through turbo kit for a 12a, google it theyre out there, pricey but you can find them, the stock 12a engines are easy...

The tach runs off of a wire on the coil closest to the front bumper, clean both terminals on both coils to be safe and see if this fixes your problem.

Sounds like its starving for fuel, did you check/change the fuel filter? could be clogged? Also remove the check valve on the fuel return line right after the carb and check this also, definately...
