R1's are the 93 "sport" model. The R2's are the 94+ "sport" models. The 93 FD's have some inherent flaws that were fixed in the 94+ models.

what are some of those flaws?

would one of them be collant seals.. my buddys FD smokes whit real bad when its cold

what are some of the other ones?

No. That is not the 93' R1 flaw. That would be a rotary problem in general. If it is coolant seals your motor is toast, you need a rebuild. You can usually do a test by either smelling the exhaust for a sweet smell like coolant, or an air pressure test.
