Planning to buy a 1990 RX7 Convertible, help?...

Hey guys, im a dsm head (mitsu driver) and im planning to buy an 1990 RX7 convertible, just curious to see what I should look out for when buying a non-turbo rotary. What are the best things to check out while I test drive the car? Any help would be appreciated, its really a cool car just to drive place to place, its all I need at the moment.

I know there are over heating issues and what not, but let me know what else I should check out while im with the car this weekend. Thanks guys.

Well 1990's are a good year for sure, i have a 1990 turboII, but the non-turbo rotaries are alot more "dependable" or some junk like that... :P

Over heating issues? Rotaries get very hot yes, but if you keep the car in goodshape it should never OVER-heat. I've been told that rotaries get up to 1200 degrees. :| I think that's autocross though.

As to overheating issues...make sure to flush the system, buy a Mazda rad cap (no Kragen's or other crap) and make sure to purge the coolant system completely.

And, of course, I'd change the t-stat if I were you.

^^ Thanks i will probably go and do that for sure... by the way... this site had all those links, but no links to what spark plugs i should use, i know i should probably use 20-50 oil. let me know guys

by the way, the car has 136K, manual, everything electrical works, no grinds in the tranny.

NGK...

20/50 is what I use (bear in mind that I don't drive my FC during winter season).

And, do remind yourself to get tranny fluid changed. I use Royal Purple.

ooh, and you DO know, they aren't any old sparkplugs... They look weird.
